Today Uber is announcing an agreement with Mayor Baraka and the City of Newark that will allow Uber partners to continue to operate in the City of Newark and at Newark Airport. With our agreement, Uber will be the only ridesharing app with authorization to connect riders and drivers in the City of Newark, including Newark Penn Station and the Newark portion of the airport (Terminals B & C). Uber partners will not have to pay any licensing fees to Newark to operate at the airport and should not receive tickets or citations for operating on the Uber platform in Newark. Uber partners will not be charged any fees by Newark related to this partnership. These protections do not apply to illegal street hails, waiting at taxi stands, or performing work off the Uber platform. This is currently the only agreement between Newark and any ridesharing company.
Please join us in thanking Mayor Baraka for paving the way for innovation and economic opportunities for the people of Newark, and for allowing safe, affordable rides for Newark visitors and residents.
We thank you for your continued partnership with Uber.
